Fortune Tellers and Astrology
Fortune Tellers and Celestial Bodies
Astrology relies on the movement of the celestial bodies—stars, planets, nebulas, galaxies, and other phenomena in space—and the divination skills of talented astrologers. This is not to be confused with astromancy, which is fortunetelling based solely on the movement of the stars, or astronomy, which is the scientific study of the stars—although astronomy and astrology were actually virtually indistinguishable before the modern age. Most people think solely of constellations and astrological symbols of the Zodiac—Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, etc.—but astrologers look for positions and movements of more than just stars; they look at anything and everything in the cosmos.
Astrologers delve as much into the past as they do into the future because the recorded movements of the celestial bodies are just as important as where the estimations of where they’re headed.
The alignments of the planets on the day a person was born, for example, can help determine the probability of success or failure in the future. Many people know their astrological signs, but they don’t realize that each sign is ruled by a celestial body and one of four elements—earth, wind, air, and fire—that can determine a person’s personality.
